A study in primary colors, I did this painting with a limited palette and mixed most of my colors on the canvas while painting. This is also an experiment in memory and imagination, as I did not use a single reference photos for the woman or the flowers in this portrait. The flowered background behind the woman seems so bright and alive, yet the woman here seems to be feeling emptiness and is simply going through the motions. All seems rosy and bright when in reality she is struggling inside, or perhaps going through the motions wills the young woman into a brighter disposition.
