Though others would try to keep him chained, this phoenix cannot be held down. He is rising up, breaking those chains, and burning all the brighter as he overcomes adversity. This painting was especially joyful for me, as I painted it live at an artisan festival. The sharp contrast of bright warm colors over deep blue darkness adds to the drama and richness of this piece.
