Original painting is oil on canvas.
Inspired by Moritz Retzsch etching of the same name which was originally printed in 1831, this painting was commissioned by a good friend. Every chess peice on the board is placed in the exact same position as in Retzsch's original work, even though the perspective has changed. The man in the spotlight of the painting is playing against the devil himself, but as a twist in my version the devil is also this man. Interpret that as you will. That is the beauty of art, it can be interpreted in so many ways, all it takes is a different perspective.
This canvas print comes stretched with museum wrapped edges and ready to hang on your wall.
